Here’s a random memory of a costume I never did.
Back in the dark ages, I used to look around on ebay pretty often for costumes. This was way before the influx of chinese commissioners, and the search term “cosplay” would only bring up about a page or two of results, if that. I would go search just to see what was out there. Well at some point, someone was selling a Super Sailor Moon costume. I had never really wanted to do a Sailor moon costume, but I love the Super version and this sounded like it would fit me. I decided to bid on it, but the auction ended while I was out of town.
So everyday I’d hop down to the hotel lobby where they had a internet kiosk (charge by the minute) and check the auction. Finally one day I able to time it so I was there when the auction ended, and I won! I was seriously excited and dutifully emailed the seller, letting them know I was out of town and would send a money order when I got home. (pre-paypal days, too, ya’ll.)
So I got home, got the money order and sent it off. And waited. And waited. And waited… emailed the seller, they said it had been mailed. So I waited. And waited. And it never came.
Pretty sure I got scammed out of $100. At that point I was hot, but I was young and didn’t know what to do about it and just dropped it. At this point I’m kinda glad about it, because I’m glad I didn’t do a Sailor Moon costume.
But, here’s something to laugh at. My quasi-Sailor Moon costume:
(looks like this was 2001, if the time stamp on my camera was correct.)
My cousin’s Sailor Moon wig (that she never wore), my Jupiter costume poorly photoshopped to Moon’s colours, and a random pair of red boots I bought for some costume? (I dont remember what I bought those for, but I sold them ages ago.)
LOL. I’m going to see if I can dig up some more old pics to post over the next week.
